Bats

The latin name of bats is Chiroptera. Bats are the only flying mammals. They roost in caves and emerge only at night to feed. They are nocturnal creatures. Bats play a vital role in the ecosystem by controlling the population of insects. Bats hunt through echolocation. They emit a high frequency shriek and using their large ears note the response time from various directions. This enables them to build up a map of their surroundings and lets them navigate in the dark and catch insects. They have very poor eyesight. Some bats eat fruits as well. The fruit eating bat has a fox shaped face. They even inspired a superhero- Batman! The vampire bat is so known because it drinks the blood of its victims like its mythical counterpart. Its saliva contains an anaesthetic as well as an anti-clotting agent. This means the victim does not feel any pain but their blood continues to flow so the bat can feed at leisure. The salivas properties are the subject of ongoing research in the hope of producing new kinds of anaesthetics and blood thinners. Bats are not birds. They do not lay eggs. They give birth to, and suckle their young like all other mammals.bats come in all manner of shape and size.some are tiny whilst others have fox like faces.these creatures have inspired terror and dread in the mind of people since ages past.different bats have different frequencies of shrieks. This is why they don’t collide with each other.
